head_injuryThis study day has been developed by the inter-disciplinary team at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to focus on the child’s journey from tertiary to community services. It is hoped that learning from this event will promote better co-ordination and communication between the various professionals involved. Venue: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Giving for Living Postgraduate Education Centre. Friday 2nd March 2007 Acquired brain or neurological injury can occur as a result of trauma or other less common causes e.g. tumour, stroke, encephalitis, transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The management of children with such injury and their families pose distinct challenges to multi-disciplinary teams in the acute, post-acute and chronic phases of their rehabilitation.
This study day has been developed by the inter-disciplinary team at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to focus on the child’s journey from tertiary to community services. It is hoped that learning from this event will promote better co-ordination and communication between the various professionals involved.
The event will be of interest to professionals working with children with acquired brain injury, including: paediatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists and other professionals from hospital, community and education services.The day will consist of inter-disciplinary lectures and break-out workshops on:
  •  Current issues in the acute management of children with acquired brain injury
  •  Rehabilitation in the post-acute phase
  • Standardised outcome measures and their application
  • Co-ordination and discharge planning from hospital to home
  • Management considerations in the community setting
  • Closing the loop – identifying processes of care that contribute to better outcomes 
Approval for CPD pending from Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
